White Chia

The chia seed is a plant of type Salvia belonging to the mint family. Chia is native to the central valley of Mexico. Grown and consumed by the Aztecs for thousands of years, the chia would significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. The chia is a gluten-free food.

Chia seeds are a source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a substance that is part of the family of omega-3.

Chia seeds are naturally high in fiber and good fat. They contain in particular from 15% to 17% of omega-3 in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). The seeds also contain 5% to 8% gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6.

Chia also contains about 23% protein and is a good source of folic acid, calcium and antioxidants.

The high fiber content of chia and its mucilaginous properties make it an interesting product to increase its fiber intake, especially for people who suffer from constipation.
