Butterbur (Petasites hybridus) is a native shrub of Europe, North America, and Asia that has been used by herbalists for centuries. Modern scientific studies have demonstrated that Butterbur supports healthy blood flow to the brain and healthy neurological function. Petasins, the active constituents in Butterbur, have been shown to play a role in minimizing the frequency and severity of neurological discomfort triggered by bright lights and stress that occasionally occurs in healthy individuals. Butterbur is thought to have antispasmodic effects on smooth muscle and vascular walls. It might also exert anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting leukotriene synthesis. Feverfew has also been shown to be effective for headache and migraine relief, but it is not yet clear how feverfew works in the prevention of migraines. Laboratory evidence suggests that feverfew extracts might inhibit platelet aggregation and inhibit serotonin release from platelets and leucocytes. Overall, this natural butterbur and feverfew combination might be better tolerated than some conventional migraine drugs used for prophylaxis, having limited affect on blood pressure, heart rate, body weight, blood chemistry, or cytology; unlike some conventional drugs such as ergot derivatives, serotonin agonists ("triptans"), beta-blockers, valproic acid, and analgesics. Product suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
